I'm sharing our precious engagement party pics today! A few of my sweet bridesmaids and friends put together this adorable black and lace engagement party and I can't say enough how talented, creative, and wonderful they are! Yay for picture overload!

Aren't those posters darling?! Westin made the quote posters and Lori and her hubby made the humongous engineering print! They're so creative!

The girls printed out our engagement pics and clothespinned them to the food table. How cute! Good thing too because I still hadn't done that....whoops!
DSC_0031 DSC_0035OK guys. If you're thinking of having an outdoor engagement party, this game table is A MUST HAVE! It kept the boys busy so us girls could gossip. Such a great idea!

In agreeing to marry Jared Wesley Bishop I had already come to the conclusion that at various points through our life together I would more than likely be involved in adventures that were crazy, ridiculous, hilarious, or possibly illegal (these events just seem to happen to Jared, he can't help himself). I just didn't realize our first adventure would be my idea. I had wanted to take our engagement pictures in the Wichita Mountains, where Jared had proposed. I also had this {somewhat ridiculous} idea to haul my vintage couch out there and take some pictures with it. Reason #100000 why Jared is the Best Ever is that he didn't even blink an eye when I mentioned the idea to him. He did however call me Beetle Juice (beetle juice beetle juice) when I showed him my dress. IMG_3011Jared and I drove around and found this absolutely GORGEOUS little field area, sparkling lake on one side, gorgeous mountains (or what we call mountains in Oklahoma) on the other, shady forest in between, and it wasn't too far from the road. PERFECT! Amanda met us and we hiked out to the forest area to get a few shots while the sun was still too bright for the couch pictures. IMG_3006
I call this one "Jared Saves the World while Kaleigh channels the helpless heroine" IMG_2990
After Amanda stepped on a cactus and got attacked by fire ants (poor girl!) we hiked back out of our forestry area to start our couch pictures. We had just hauled the couch up this stupid hill to set it in the most perfect spot ever when a stinkin rent a cop patrol officer drove up and informed us that we were not allowed to take pictures there. Something about props were not allowed (somewhat understandable) out there and commercial photography was illegal (not commercial photography but whatever). It didn't matter what we said he was NOT going to let us finish our shoot.

So under the disapproving eye of the rent a cop civil servant, we hauled the couch back into the truck and packed up our things to leave. We were all so disappointed! I just couldn't understand why the state WOULDN'T want people taking pictures of the area, it's so gorgeous! Amanda was so sweet and offered to let us meet back up another weekend to finish the shoot but Jared had other ideas. After the trooper drove off we got back in the truck and drove a couple miles down the road, turned down a side road, and came to the lookout spot that Jared and I had started our "engagement hike" at. With the sun quickly sliding behind rain clouds we set the couch, changed, and started our shoot again!

While I don't necessarily agree with defying state law, I'm so glad we went ahead and got our couch shots! They turned out so beautiful even with (or because of!) the clouds and the sprinkling of rain. Besides, my couch NEEDED to be shot in the Wichita Mountains, it DESERVED to be there ;) I mean look at that thing! IMG_3087

3152 resized A little shoutout to IndieJane Photography: I LOVED our shoot! Amanda was hilarious and so fun to work with. She totally understood my vision with the mountains and the couch, and she completely agreed with me about my striped dress. The poor girl was bit by fire ants and stabbed with a cactus needle and she was still as cheerful and positive as ever. She wasn't afraid to go tromping through waist high grass to get a shot and she didn't waste one SECOND of daylight. I would recommend Amanda to anyone needing a photographer! THANKS AMANDA!!!

I knew Jared was going to be proposing soon. We had picked out my ring the week before and he had spoken to my dad the week before that. I was hoping that he would ask soon so that we could get the ball rolling. But when he asked if I wanted to go hiking in the Witchita Mountains I was only slightly suspicious. First of all, while we had discussed hiking before, we had never gone. Also, I’m not much of an outdoor person. I enjoy hiking; I don’t enjoy the Oklahoma heat. So I wasn’t sure if he really wanted to deal with me squealing about bugs and such while he tried to propose.

We ended up driving down to the Lawton (about 2 hours away) early that morning so by the time we started hiking it was still pleasantly warm outside, not-death-by-oven hot. We hiked around the Quanah Parker Lake area which was an area I had never been to so I was excited to get some pictures. I was getting so nervous, thinking that every time we set up my camera to take a picture he was going to propose. Jared later told me that he was getting super irritated because there was a guy close to us that would NOT go away.
IMG_3622
Unfortunately, about 15 minutes into our hike, my camera decided to die. After that I thought, “ok he’s DEFINITELY not asking now”. So I was able to kind of relax and enjoy our time together. At the time I was so upset that I wasn’t going to be able to document every moment of our engagement (if he asked!) but looking back I’m almost glad that I didn’t have my camera. I was able to focus on Jared and just enjoy our moment together and not think about anything else but him.

We wandered around a little bit more until Jared came to an awesome view of this valley (no pic ;)). We sat down and just kind of soaked it all in for a little bit. After a few minutes Jared gave me the sweetest speech that had me laughing and half sobbing by the end of it. I’m not going to tell you what he said ;) I want to keep that moment for just us, something that is special and intimate between us alone. There are some things that just don’t have to be blogged (gasp!) and this is one of them. But never fear, I’ve written it down to keep for myself so I don’t forget!
IMG_3649
We stayed in that valley for a while longer, looking out and laughing and reveling in the moment. Afterwards, Jared took me to Meers for lunch, a famous longhorn burger joint that’s been around since 1901 that I had somehow missed eating at. I don’t know if it was the burger or the moment but that was the best dang restaurant I had ever eaten at.

I feel so wonderfully blessed to be able to call this man my fiancé. Jared is my absolute soul mate and I cannot wait to marry him!
